occupiers are moving into a vacant park. they were not granted a permit. cops in riot gear have been spotted in aerial video running at protesters at full speed. protesters have a bus, which cops are attempting to stop and confiscate.
their scanner says “we need to separate this bus from this crowd.”
when that’s tweeted, the scanner notes to cops using radio that they’re being monitored. and the OPD even followed tim pool (prominent citizen journalist who’s covered Occupy since the beginning) on twitter.
chris dodd, the democratic senator, the author of the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill, who is now chair of the MPAA appeared on Fox News and did openly what we all knew happened anyway: he threatened Obama and the legislature with withholding reelection money if SOPA is not passed.
there has been a backlash. some girl scout members and just girl haters have formed this bigoted group called “h*nest girl scouts.” this may have been around since before this decision, but i’m seeing it more now, which may mean that the backlash/haters are getting more vocal since deciding not to require members to “prove” their gender and admit anyone who self identifies as a girl. i’ve seen it on CNN.
they’ve said that Girl Scouts promote a pro-lesbian, pro-abortion agenda. ok… being actively involved for over a decade, i haven’t seen any sort of agenda at all, let alone pro-lesbian or pro-abortion. *
pasted from their site: FACTOID: Did you know that radical feminist Betty Friedan, founder of NOW (National Organization for Women) and NARAL (National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League) was on the National Board of GSUSA for 12 years?
why yes i did! it was one of the deciding factors in allowing my own daughter to join.
and yes, i knew they help educate girls in self care and help, with the guidance of planned parenthood. yyeperdoodle.
if you’re curious (i’m guessing you’re not) you can find them at h*nestgirlsc*uts DOT com (obviously, correct the asterisks and the DOT.)
but even better, if you want to make sure the girl scouts know you’re in their corner, consider buying some cookies from a local girl scout, or just give at http://www.girlscouts.org/support/
*i’m sorry, i stand corrected. my daughter tells me she’s lost track of how many abortions she’s had since becoming a girl scout. good thing they did all that brainwashing, otherwise she might have a quiver full o’ brats by now….
as the parent of a girl scout, atheist and gay rights activist, i just want to clarify the delineation between girl scouts and boy scouts. they are completely separate organizations with different missions and goals. Girl Scouts has never required my kid to partake in any prayers or pledges for any level of participation, while anyone who chooses to form religously-oriented troops is free to do so, with no minimum amount of kids per troop. i support this organization without reservation.
There is a field to tell them if you’re doing it in honor of someone, which could be used to let them know the reason for your donation.
In case some of you weren’t already aware, there has been a call for people to boycott the Girl Scouts (through not buying cookies) because they allow trans girls into their organization. So, here’s the reverse of that, support the Girl Scouts for their inclusiveness! Donate, write a letter thanking them, or just buy cookies!
signal boosting the fuuuuuck outta this.
Myra our house is going to be wall-to-wall cookies this year.
“Smoke rises from burning tyres on Periferico Avenue in Guatemala City. Protesters gathered to demonstrate to demand that Congress pass a housing law that will guarantee adequate housing, services and infrastructure for people living in informal settlements without basic services, local media reported.” TIME
Global Revolution, which has been live streaming Occupy Wall Street since the day it started - before even, because i remember tuning in early and seeing tutorials on protest tactics and how to deal with police - has had their Brooklyn studio raided. six people were arrested. the city went to the length of condemning the building, though no one else in the building was evicted.
Anonymous 101: a wired.com writer “embeds” with Occupy and Anonymous and gives a decent primer in three parts
so… some criticize wired.com but any source will have its shortcomings and if you need to get up to speed on Anonymous, this is a good place to start. it’s a three part series (only two parts done so far), it’s comprehensive, so you may want to bookmark it and come back to it later for the other two parts.
think 21 century yippies, merry pranksters, this sort of thing, for the digital age. it’s good stuff, and they have a lot more in store for us in 2012.
Part 1Part 2how to become anon
don’t know if you heard about the strange subpoena to twitter for the personal data of users associated with Occupy Boston. it generated many chuckles in its ignorance, kinda like your grandmother asking you how to google something…
see here http://boingboing.net/2011/12/24/boston-pds-bizarre-occupy-su.html
now read this post by an attorney attempting to assist one of the twitter users in challenging the subpoena. you will not believe this happened in an american courtroom:
